What happens if I use the wrong network?
Sending an asset on a network the recipient isn't watching can make the funds unreachable. The transaction may succeed technically, but the coins land somewhere the recipient can't access.
Why it happens
The same asset can exist on multiple networks. If the sender picks one network and the recipient's wallet only watches another, the funds arrive 'off to the side' of where they're expected.
How to avoid it
- Confirm the exact network with the recipient before sending.
- Match the network selection in your wallet to theirs.
- Send a small test amount first.
- When unsure, ask — never guess the network.
Why it matters
Wrong-network errors are common and frequently unrecoverable. A 30-second check prevents a permanent loss.
A practical way to picture it
It's like mailing a package to the right street address but the wrong city — technically delivered somewhere, just not anywhere the recipient can reach.
Risks & common mistakes
- Funds may be permanently unreachable.
- Recovery, if possible at all, is technical and rarely guaranteed.
- Exchanges may not support recovering wrong-network deposits.
